Dr. J. Van Rensburg’s special interest in Esthetic Dentistry introduced him to the exciting new field of fibre reinforced composites.  He attended a course in Turku in Finland in 2003.  Dr J. Van Rensburg has already done more than 700 successful clinical cases involving fibre reinforced composite restorations, both in England and South Africa.  Currently he is practicing in the UK where he is also actively involved in an educational program focusing on fibre reinforced dentistry.

Dr Van Rensburg (Jansie)  lectured at numerous International and National Dental Congresses, Study Group Meetings, BDA (British Dental Association) meetings and post graduate centres throughout the UK and Wales.  He has recently lectured at a minimally Invasive Symposium in Lindau, Germany as well as an esthetic Dental Congress in Warsaw, Poland.  He published a number of articles including a peer review article published in the SADJ (South African Dental Journal), February 2005, on Fibre Reinforced Composite Restorations. As reflected by the feed back forms completed by the delegates who attended these courses the training sessions are very popular and more than 500 dentists have already been trained on the hands-on courses, throughout South Africa , the UK and Europe in the different applications of fibre reinforced composites.  Dr. Van Rensburg was nominated as one of the trainers of the year in 2005 by Stick Tech Ltd.  'Turning the impossible into the Possible' - click here.   (Article by Dr. Jansie van Rensburg)

Lecture: Turku, Finland on the 8th and 9th June 2007

Fibre reinforced composites is a fast growing and exciting “new” field in dentistry.  Many dentists all over the world have included this cost effective treatment option as part of their daily dentistry routine with great success.  Fibre Bond Ltd. is a company specializing in the training of dentists in these minimally invasive techniques and they are also the suppliers of Stick and everStick fibres and all other products associated with fibre technology.

The 19th May 1997 marks an important milestone for Stick Tech Ltd. (the company responsible for the manufacturing of the leading products in Fibre technology, the Stick and everStick fibres.)  A great 10th anniversary conference is scheduled to take place in Turku, Finland on the 8th and 9th June 2007. Friday 8th June will be devoted to a full lecture program by prominent speakers and the name of Prof Pekka Vallitu deserves to be mentioned. The evening is scheduled to host an elegant cocktail dinner party where delegates will have the opportunity to mingle with colleagues and the Stick Tech personnel. For Saturday 9th June a relaxing day is planned with a cruise to the Turku archipelago with lunch and coffee on the island of Pikku-pukki. After lunch there will also be an opportunity to experience a walk on the island.

Dr. Jansie Van Rensburg from FibreBond Ltd. and also practicing dentist in Heathfield East Sussex is honoured to be invited to speak at the conference on Friday 8th June 2007. He will be one of 12 spreakers at this very prestigious event and will share his knowledge of the fibre technology. The theme of his lecture at the Anniversary will be “the splint make-over” on the periodontally compromised patient, with the abstract of his lecture being the following: “The restoration of the periodontally compromised mouth is one of the most demanding challenges that any dentist can face.  Whenever we prescribe treatment, even in non-compromised mouths, it can be incredibly difficult to predict an outcome, but when we are working on teeth that have already “entered the casino” we must see every treatment option as a gamble.  For any patient who undergoes treatment there are two costs to be considered: the financial cost and the biological cost.  It is our duty as clinicians to recognize the importance of each of these costs and to try to keep the risks of each treatment “gamble” to a minimum.  Dr van Rensburg has worked extensively in this field and would like to illustrate, by means of four clinical cases, how the everStick fibres can help to tip the odds in our favour whilst keeping the patient costs as low as possible.”

In the interest of the UK’s dental patients, dentists are urged to take the Fibre technology on board in their practices. FibreBond Ltd. ( tel. no 01424 755238) could be contacted for more general information regarding the Fibre Technology and Hands-on-courses on this subject.
