Occlusal Splinting and the prevention of food impaction

1  Pre-op

 

1  Fractured root removed, rubber dam isolation placed

1       1 Fractured filling, mobile premolar and food impaction

2      

2 Trench preparation and wedges to block out embrasures 2  Shallow retention groove prepared by removing old restoration and dental caries

       2  Labial view

3 Etch, rinse and dry, bond, apply flowable composite 3  Cantilever fibre frame

3  Old amalgam  restorations removed
4    Place splint and tack into position.  The Stick ™ Stepper instrument is very handy to prevent excessive light reaching and staring to cure the rest of the splint 4  Tooth built up directly in mouth   4   Inter proximal box-areas b uilt up supra-gingival

5   Splint in position   

 

 

5  End result.  As the healing process take place the gingival part of the pontic can easily be adjusted by adding more composite

5 Fibres and wedge placed

 

 

6  Cover splint with composite and light cure

  Teeth restored
